  • Weirbags give Key Account Manager Cassie Alcock a good send off for maternity leave

Exciting times in the office this week as celebrations saw staff get together to present flowers and gifts on Cassie’s last day before going on maternity leave. Managing Director Martin Ellioth gave a warming speech, thanking Cassie for her hard work.

Cassie has been working for Weir & Carmichael Ltd since July 2012, and has found success establishing and maintaining valuable relationships with customers. The sales team have revised their strategy in preparation for her absence, to ensure her customers will receive the same, efficient and effective service they are used to working with Cassie.

Cassie will be missed while she is away. We wish her all the best!

  • Weirbags celebrate Christmas in style

We were delighted to visit The Florist on Hardman Street, Liverpool for our Christmas party, where we enjoyed a delicious three course meal and a range of tasty, well-presented drinks. Celebrations involved a game of secret Santa and staff from different parts of the business coming together to congratulate one and other on another year’s good work. Managing Director Martin Ellioth said he and the Weirbags team were delighted with the food and  quality service.

Formerly The Old Blind School restaurant, The Florist opened in April and has since become a hotspot in Liverpool for all kinds of people to visit for a variety of occasion. We would like to thank the organisers and staff at the Florist for providing a positive experience for all of us. For more information or to see The Florist’s menu head over to their website.

Weirbags wish our customers a Merry Christmas and the best of luck in the New Year.

  • Weirbags bags help bring warmth to London’s homeless

This November, charity Hands-On London ran its annual ‘Wrap Up London’ scheme for the eighth year. The scheme collects   unwanted coats donated by the public at a number of major tube stations around the capital city over three days. In addition to this, private collections are made from businesses, families and groups of friends. These are then distributed by 800+ volunteers to the homeless, elderly and refugees.

After seeing so much support in London, Hands On have expanded their campaign to Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, in partnership with international charity Human Appeal. This means many more individuals in need have a coat to keep them warm during the colder months.

Weirbags proudly supplied the woven polypropylene bags used by volunteers to store and transport coats collected, which were printed with Wrap Up London branding in order to help promote the charity. Weirbags’ Commercial Director Julia Pemberton added:  “We are very pleased to see our printed bags used to help such a worthwhile cause.”

Wrap Up London hold their heads high as one of London’s most successful volunteer-led initiatives, constantly increasing and achieving their targets. To support Hands-on London with a donation or to get involved, head over to their website here.

  • How to Split, Stack, Season and Store Firewood

Now that we are approaching the latter of the winter months it’s probably a good time to start cutting firewood in preparation for next winter.

Wood is traditionally cut from January until early March largely due the moisture content of the wood being at it’s lowest during these months. Tree sap remains at the bottom of the trunk throughout winter and leaves begin to draw it up when they sprout in spring therefore it is crucial to get cutting before then to maximise dryness. Wood is also much easier to cut in cooler temperatures. Continue reading
