Weir & Carmichael came to the rescue of local communities within the UK by providing emergency sandbags for the recent flooding over the Christmas period.
This severe flooding on Boxing Day prompted widespread evacuations in many areas of the North of England. Four 40ft lorry loads of filled sandbags were ordered by the Environment Agency intended for use in emergency flooding in the City of York to minimise the impact that these severe floods would have on the local communities.
The rot proof hessian sandbags were delivered within a few hours of the order being placed, despite our office and warehouse being closed for the Christmas period and despite it being a Sunday. Several of our staff gave up part of their holiday to ensure the order was delivered as quickly as possible. There were many volunteers from the local community who all helped to unload the lorries.
In emergency situations like this, sandbags have shown once again to be the most accessible and convenient emergency flood solution. It also demonstrates Weir & Carmichael’s capability to deal with vital and emergency orders whatever the situation.
